Elmo Hands!!!

He has hands now!!! It might be a while till I get legs on him. I want to move on to some other projects first.

Also, I had some requests to post better pictures of Miss Piggy's head. Ask and you will receive.

Elmo Update

He has a body!!! Now it's time for the most tedious part of the puppet making process. The hands.

Elmo WIP

I put Piggy to the side for a little bit and just a started an Elmo build. I'm thrilled with how he is coming out.

Piggy Update

I found a cheap wig that is okay. When I rebuild her I will order a nicer wig, but this will do for the prototype. Like the Fozzie and Gonzo when I make the pattern as I am making the puppet I call that puppet a working prototype. I am usually pretty happy with how they come out but I will use cheaper materials. Like with Fozzie he is made out of a fur I found at Joanns, but I now have really nice fur that I bought for when I rebuild him. That will not happen until after January once Avenue Q opens. For those of you that do not know, I am build puppets for a local production of Avenue Q. They requested original designs so I had a lot of artistic freedom.

I have to remake the eyes and make them a little smaller. Also I am going to alter the pattern to make the head on the next Miss Piggy a little wider.

Miss Piggy work in progress

I started building Piggy, but I am not doing it the traditional way. For those of you that do not know; she is usually carved out of clay, then a mold is made, then cast then head, then flock the foam. I have done some mold making and casting in the past (for Howie the wolf and other projects) but I am not fond of it. So I decided to make a patter for her and cut her out of 1/2 foam and antron fleece.

She's not perfect but considering the method I am using to construct her I am extremely happy with the results so far.

This is the foam head before the hours of stitching the fleece pieces together.

This is after the sewing. it still need to be smoothed out a bit. and maybe shaved.

Cookie Monster Build

Cookie is done!!! I love how the pattern turned out! Unfortunately the blue fur I ordered ended up looking dark than it did on the website I ordered it from, but it's not that bad.

Oscar The Grouch Build Finished

He's all done. I'm pretty happy with him overall. I did make some changes to the pattern for when I rebuild him in the future. Which will be no time soon.
The eye mechanism works really well and is comfortable too.
